545 0 |a The photographs in this collection are primarily of Albert and Minnie Toms, who were related to two other Spokane families, the Broad and Pearce families. All three families immigrated to Spokane from Cornwall, U.K. between 1889 and 1912. The first family member to arrive was James C. Broad, but he is not represented in the photographs. He was joined in Spokane by his half-sister, Annie Pearce Toms, her husband John Toms, and their daughter Minnie Toms. In 1906, Annie<U+2019>s brother, Thomas John Pearce arrived in Spokane, where he entered the construction trade and built homes on College Avenue. In 1908, John and Annie Pearce brought back three more siblings from Cornwall, William Broad Pearce, Albert Pearce and William<U+2019>s wife, Maud Mary Toms Pearce, who was John<U+2019>s sister. The final Pearce sibling, Bessie Pearce, arrived in Spokane around 1912. All of the siblings lived in Spokane until their death.
