Felicia Hemans Club records
Felicia Hemans Club records
Kit -
One handwritten notebook containing the membership rosters, meeting minutes and treasurer's reports of the Felicia Hemans Club in Spokane. The woman's club appears to have been quite small, with eight to twelve members attending each meeting. The club appears to have been a literary one with members giving readings. Rosa Chapel served as secretary for the bulk of the minutes. Other names are often difficult to decipher, and are almost always given as "Mrs. Smith" or "Mrs. Thompson."

| 545 | 0 | |a Felicia Hemans (1793-1835) was an English poet who earned a reputation during her lifetime, particularly by women. It appears that the Spokane women named their literary club after her, though there is no mention of it in the club's minutes. | |
