Roy Eberhardt, the new kid in his Florida town, runs into several of the state's more eccentric eccentrics--human and otherwise--such as a threatening pancake public relations man, a fake-fart champion, potty-trained alligators, and poisonous snakes with suspiciously sparkling tails when he sets out on the trail of a mysterious running boy he observes through the school bus window.
