541 |a At the time of its publication, the original diary was owned by Mrs. Eleanor P. Dueber of Missoula and the translation was made by W. J. Kommers of Spokane. It was published as Across the Plains in '67: The Diary of a Pioneer, From St. Paul, Minnesota to Portland, Oregon, 1867-1868, and as The Northern Overland Route in 1867: The Diary of Henry Lueg (in the Pacific Northwest Quarterly. 
545 0 |a Henry Lueg emigrated from Germany in 1861. He served with 21st New York Reigiment of volunteers and he was honorably discharged after serving two years in the civil war. He lived in Cincinnati, St. Louis and Nashville before settling in St. Paul. From St. Paul, he joined the Davy Emigration party, which made the journey to Portland, Oregon. He settled in Portland, where he worked as a machinist.
