He describes "the first real celebration of Independence Day" held in Spokane. He describes speeches given that day, and the importance of the Northern Pacific Railroad.

He was born in Syracuse, New York in 1832, moved as a child to Indiana and studied medicine at the University of Michigan and then finished in Cincinnati in 1855. In Spokane, he settled in Deep Creek, then Reardan, and then settled in Spokane around 1906. He was married to Margaret John and they had a daughter and two sons. He died in Spokane in 1918. | |
