A river's gifts

the mighty Elwha River reborn
Patricia Newman ; illustrated by Natasha Donovan
Book - 2023

A picture book exploring the ecological history of the Elwha River of the Pacific Northwest, which for thousands of years provided salmon to the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, who called themselves the Strong People, until foreigners arrived, settled the land, and eventually built dams to produce electricity. The dams flooded the Strong People's land and harmed the salmon, until today when a group of Strong People and activists have removed the dams and created a national park to preserve the salmon and the river.
