| 545 | 0 | |a The Glenrose Women's Club began as a sewing club in 1903 or 1904 in the rural neighborhoods along the southeastern edge of the City of Spokane. In 1912, they became a charter member of the statewide Homemakers' Extension Clubs. These clubs focused on practical educational opportunities for their members including courses on arts and crafts, cooking and sewing. In addition to this, the club was one of the primary actors in the construction of a monument to the Mullan Road. This road was the first wagon road to cross the Rocky Mountains and passed through the southern part of this area. Through the course of their history they have been involved in a number of social and charitable causes ranging from temperance efforts to donation campaigns for international charities. As of 2007, they remained active in the Glenrose and Moran Prairie neighborhoods. | |
