The heart and mind of Frances Pauley

by April Stevens
Book - 2018

Eleven-year-old Frances, who calls herself Figrotten, nurtures her loneliness by isolating herself on the rocky hill behind her house and observing nature. She also finds ways of isolating herself at school. As her relationship with her older sister Christinia breaks down, her only real friend is the elderly bus driver named Alvin who seems to understand Frances' need for isolation. Alvin dies and Francis is overcome with grief, but she slowly begins to bridge the gap between herself and Christinia, and a few classmates with whom she identifies.
