Twelve-year-old Lorenzo Venture lives on a peach farm with his mother who was widowed after Lorenzo's father was killed in the war. When new details about his father's death come to light, Lorenzo is anxious to learn the truth, but his mother and grandfather are too busy trying to save the failing farm. So Lorenzo relies on his friendship with his pet pig, Marty, that is now nearly 350 pounds and acts more like a dog than a pig, for comfort. However, when Marty causes an accident, Lorenzo must work to keep his mother from getting rid of his best friend.
