Nala Robertson reluctantly agrees to go outside her comfort zone to an open mic night with her friend Imani for her birthday, but finds herself falling for the cute emcee Tye Brown. Unfortunately, Nala has almost nothing in common with Tye--where she loves watching movies and trying out fun new flavors of ice cream, Tye loves doing activist work over the summer. Nala lies to impress Tye, and as they start hanging out the lies become harder to sustain. In the end, Nala will learn that self-love is perhaps the most loving thing she can do.
