Spokane Falls Fire Department Report

Spokane Falls Fire Department Report

Kit -

First annual report of the Chief Engineer of the Spokane Falls Fire Department. The handwritten report, dated April 1890 was addressed to the Mayor and City Council of the City of Spokane Falls. The report describes the new fire house, a new steam fire engine and other additional fire fighting apparatus. The establishment of a paid, professional fire department was done in response to the disastrous Spokane fire, which destroyed much of downtown Spokane in August 1889. The report also gives a listing of all men employed by the Fire department and a detailed inventory of equipment. The report was written by E. P. Gillette, Chief Engineer. Also, a typewritten ordinance (with handwritten notes) to create a hospital fund for the fire department, also dated 1890.
