|
|a Weeks after her baby brother dies, Gloria Mae Willard's family is evicted from their Oklahoma farm during the Dust Bowl. Heading west to seek work in the California peach groves, her father tells her the move is only temporary, until they can save up enough money to buy more land and a home. Gloria, who loves playing baseball, learns that the sons of some of the workers have formed a baseball team. When they don't allow her to play, she persists in proving to them she's a good player and helps her father gain the confidence to buck the orchard's rules and organize a union.
