Double jeopardy

Double jeopardy

William Bernhardt
Book - 1995

Mobster Al Moroconi is hauled in on the charge of orchestrating a monstrous crime against a young woman. When the first defense attorney on the case disappears under highly suspicious circumstances, Travis Byrne, a smart Dallas cop who decided in mid-career to change his badge for a law degree, is appointed by a federal judge to speak for his defense. But just as the trial is getting underway, Moroconi shoots his way out of custody and vanishes into the Dallas underworld. Suddenly, the FBI is after Travis for a murder he didn't commit and the mob wants to kill him for a secret he doesn't have. Running for his life, Travis realizes that the charge against Moroconi is just a cover for something much bigger and more foul.
