Logging photo albums
Kit -
Three photo albums showing scenes of Spokane, and the Coeur d'Alene area, particularly of logging camps. The photographs are completely unidentified except for a couple of items within the photographs. Two photographs in album #2 identify the lumber company as the B. R. Lewis Lumber Company of Coeur d'Alene, but it is not known if all of the photographs are of that company. Other photographs that are identifiable include the Monroe Street Bridge under construction as well as some scenes of downtown Spokane.

| 545 | 0 | |a Between 1898 and 1914, Idaho tripled its timber production, and most of that came from the northern counties. The peak of this around the Coeur d'Alene region came in 1910, the time of these photographs. B. R. Lewis came to the Coeur d'Alenes from Minnesota in 1903. He originally planned on constructing a complete lumber manufacturing plant, but in 1904, he purchased a partially constructed sawmill from the Kennedy brothers. It was located on the west bank of the Spokane River where it leaves Lake Coeur d'Alene. The plant included all the machinery of finished lumber and the logging operations were located on the west side of Lake Coeur d'Alene. He built several miles of logging railroad. The company had financial problems and only operated from 1904 to 1908, when it was sold the Blackwell Lumber Company | |
