Collection consists of loose photographs and one small photo album. The album contains views of Spokane around 1906-1908. Most of those photographs are of the Spokane River and the Spokane Falls. There are four loose photographs of the zoo at Natatorium Park, and the Spokane River. Also included in the collection are photographs of schools at which Ethel Ashley taught in Spokane. Folder one contains photographs of Mrs. Fanny M. Brandt's House at 945 E. Nora Ave in Spokane. Folder two contains photographs from Hamilton School from 1919 to 1921. Folder three contains photographs from Longfellow School from 1921 to 1927. The photographs show children and teachers at the school, mostly unidentified. The final folder contains portraits of Ashley and her students.

545 0 |a Ethel M. Ashley, art teacher, graduated from Spokane High School in January 1904. She then studied at the Spokane Art League in 1904-1905. In the fall of 1905, she went to San Francisco to study at the Art Institute and was there for the 1906 earthquake. She returned to Spokane and taught at the Art League school in 1906-1907. She later taught in Veradale, Washington and at Hamilton Elementary School in Spokane before teaching at North Central High School from 1927 to 1948. She was head of the art department when she retired. She died in 1977 in Sand Point, Idaho.
