Milo once had a thriving divorce-case business in the small town of Meriwether, in the Pacific Northwest. But liberal new divorce laws have driven him to drink, and now he spends the days staring out the window. He's on his third drink of the morning when an attractive young woman walks into his office and asks him to find her brother. It looks like a routine missing-person case, and though it will probably be boring, he takes it in hopes of getting to know her better. But things aren't routine, and Milo finds himself involved in what is most definitely the wrong case.
