Sometimes only horses to eat

David Thompson the Saleesh House period 1807-1812
Carl W Haywood; illustrated by Cricket Johnston
Book - 2008

The famed Canadian explorer David Thompson, one of the word's greatest explorer-mapmakers, left a mystery in his wake during the period of time he spent developing the fur trade in northwestern Montana, northern Idaho and northeastern Washington (1807-1812). He established the fur trading post, Saleesh House, but exactly where? We know it existed near the explorer's namesake town of Thompson Falls in northwestern Montana along what is now called the Clark Fork River. In this book, Carl Haywood follows Thompson's travels through Montana and seeks to answer to the question of exactly where Saleesh House was located. Haywood takes the reader step-by-step through the hardships and peril Thompson and his voyaguers faced.
