After his grandfather dies, 16 year-old John Grady Cole has very little reason to stay in Texas. The allure of unseen lands beckons and he and a friend set out for Mexico. On their journey across the hard-scrabble land the boys meet adventure and fright, all while growing in character and fortitude.
