In 2256, Mina Saunders-Chang and her fellow surviving humans find themselves stranded in the Centauri system with the Telphon, having just escaped a deadly confrontation with those very same Telphon refugees, trapped within the projected blast zone of a supernova. Meanwhile, Liam and Phoebe wake on a strange ship, a human starliner listed as having disappeared decades ago, with an even stranger, massive alien machine floating in space in front of them--a machine projecting a voice that only Liam seems able to hear.
