Louisa isn't thrilled to spend her summer vacation with Australian relatives who manage a Tasmanian rainforest on an island off the mainland; she'd rather be practicing her violin to prepare for orchestra tryouts. After she meets her eccentric uncle and a boy with autism named Colin, she's given a copy of her great-grandmother's diary and learns that her family is caring for a species of tiger thought to be extinct. Louisa learns her great-grandmother had some musical abilities and her talents may be the key to saving the tiger from developers.
