Even though Claire is in fifth grade and can do a perfect triple handspring, she still struggles with reading. When her vice principal, Mr. McKay, suggests she get evaluated for a learning disability, Claire has to find a way to convince her mother to let her get tested. This proves to be a challenge as Claire's mother fears her daughter will be labeled as "stupid" and just feels like Claire isn't trying hard enough. With the help of her gymnastics teammates, older sister, best friend, and Mr. McKay, Claire finds her voice to stand up for what she needs.
