Right as Rain

Lindsey Stoddard
Book - 2020

Eleven-year-old Rain moves with her family from Vermont to New York in order to make a fresh start after her teenage brother Guthrie's death, for which Rain blames herself. She struggles fitting in in her largely Latinx neighborhood and diverse school, but as she begins making friends, she begins to understand the universal nature of grief and starts to forgive herself. Even as she watches her family fall apart from grief, Rain joins the school's track team and learns to cope through running; and as the anniversary of her brother's death approaches, Rain is scheduled to run in her first track meet.
